Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was the biggest beneficiary. It was established by Bill Gates, Microsoft founder and his wife Melinda. They focused on education and world health. Bill and Buffett have been close friends since the beginning of the 1990s. The other organizations receiving donations included those run by Buffett's 3 children and the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, named after his late wife, and was focused on women's reproductive rights and also funded college scholarship programs. In the year 2010 Buffett along with the Gateses came up with the Giving Pledge, an invitation to wealthy people to donate the majority of their fortune to charities.
